Dog Registration (Tag)
A Dog Tag will help the Animal Control Officer return your lost dog to you.
A Dog Tag is your dog's ticket home.
Beginning April 1st, the late payment fee of $18.00 increases the dog tag to $36.00.
Commencing June 28th, 2010, staff from the Windsor Commissionaires will be canvasing the Municipality of Leamington to collect late dog tag registrations and to gather information with respect to the Dog Owner's Liability Act.
If you have not purchased your dog tags, you may purchase tages from the Commissionaires or you may still purchase tags at the Municipal Office, 38 Erie Street North.
The Commissionaires are uniformed and will have "Municipality of Leamington" identification tags.
Every owner of a dog within the Municipality of Leamington shall obtain a tag
from the Municip al Office,
38 Erie Street North, Leamington or print the licence form
below and send
into municipal office along with the fee. Dog Licences are to be puchased annually and require
renewing on a calendar year basis.
Dog Registration (tag) Form Please complete the dog registration form in its entirety and forward it to the Municipal Office, together with cash, debit or cheque made payable to the "Municipality of Leamington". Your dog tag along with a
receipt will be mailed back to you.
Failure to purchase a licence may result in a fine of up to $500.00.
Kennel Licence
The cost of a Kennel Licence is $106.00 which includes one dog tag.
Kennel Licence Application Form Confirm the zoning of your property prior to establishing a kennel by contacting the Municipality's Planning Department at extensions 205 or 292. Complete the kennel licence form and return it to the Clerk's Department in the Municipal Office along with cash, debit or cheque made payable to the "Municipality of Leamington".
Each person who owns or harbours a dog shall remove excrement left by such dog in any municipal owned areas including parks, sidewalks, boulevards, etc.
Please note that as per Leamington By-law 668-06, every dog owner shall only keep 2 dogs per dwelling unit.

The Animal Control Officer may be contacted for the following situations:
- dogs running at large
- if your dog is lost
- dangerous dogs
- to live trap raccoons, skunks, possums
- remove and dispose of animals found dead on municipal roads

Animal Control Dog Adoption Policy Kingsville & Leamington:
1. Make an appointment to visit the Pound to choose a dog.
2. Dog adoptions are $50.00.
3. If the vet or owner finds something wrong with the dog, it may be returned to the Pound within 2 calendar weeks of adoption.
4. The owners are responsible for shots and medications once the dog leaves the Pound.
5. The Animal Control Committee will not be responsible for any veterinary costs incurred.

Pit Bulls
Amendments to the Dog Owners’ Liability Act ban the owning, breeding, transferring, importing or abandoning of pit bulls. Owners may be permitted to keep an existing pit bull subject to leashing, muzzling and sterilization restrictions that took effect on October 28th, 2005.
