Community Improvement Plans may include means by which municipalities can provide financial incentives, in order to achieve planning objectives that are for the broader public good. Community improvement plans can be prepared to encourage development, redevelopment, maintenance and rehabilitation. This may include ways to direct and stimulate development through grant/or loan programs that support a municipality's community-building goals.
Community Improvement programs can be tailored to support municipal redevelopment and revitalization goals such as diversifying employment opportunities, improving accessibility, attracting specific industries, remediating and redeveloping brown field sites, and revitalizing core areas.
Leamington has begun the process of developing a Community Improvement Plan for its uptown commercial district. The process was started in the Spring of 2011 and the finalized plan to be completed by July, 2012.
