On May 18th 2004, at approximately 8:40 pm, Christine Woelk, 49 years of age, from Leamington went missing. She was last heard from during a cellular telephone conversation while driving her vehicle westbound on Oak Street East in Leamington.
This occurence was reported to the Leamington Police who immediately treated her disappearance as "suspicious". A search was conducted throughout Leamington and the surrounding area as all police agencies in the area were advised to be on the look out for Ms. Woelk and her green over gold Pontiac Trans Sport van.
On May 20th 2004, her van was located between two cottages on Point Pelee Drive near Road D.
On May 25th 2004, one week after her disappearance, the body of Christine Woelk was discovered at Black Willow Beach in Point Pelee National Park. It appeared that her body had been in the water for several days. An autopsy was performed and no definitive cause of death was established.
A team of detectives from the Leamington Police and the Ontario Provincial Police began an extensive investigation into Ms. Woelk's suspicious death. Hundreds of people were interviewed and on December 10th, 2004 police informed the general public that Ms. Woelk's death was now officially being treated as a homicide.
Investigators are convinced that someone knows what happened to Ms. Woelk.
Crime Stoppers and police held a fund raiser in December 2004 to raise reward money in hopes that someone would come forward with information that would result in an arrest and conviction, however, no one has approached police with any substantial information.
Police are reminding the public that this is still an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information is urged to call the Leamington Police at 326-3214 or Crime Stoppers at 258-TIPS. |
