The Leamington Police Services is proud of its ongoing involvment and committment to our local grade schools and high schools. We firmly believe that the best way to keep kids from making bad decisions and wrong choices is to deal with them in school and not on the street.
Our community services officer spends countless hours at all local schools, assisting with the delivery of a variety of programs. He also serves as a resource for classroom discussions.
This year the Leamington Police Services will be piloting a new program called B-Rad (Bullying, Relationships, Alcohol and Drugs) which will be delivered to Grade 9 Students at Leamington District Secondary School.
We also work with students, parents and school staff to address individual issues of concern.
Values, Influences and Peers
An important part of our school involvement is the Values, Influences and Peers (VIP) program. The Leamington Police Services delivers VIP to all grade 6 students in Leamington.
Our VIP program covers ten classes on topics such as peer pressure, bullying, authourity figures, vandalism, shoplifting, smoking, alcohol and drugs.
VIP also give the students an opportunity to get to know and better understand police officers, their work and responsibilities.
High Schools
Our community services officer is actively involved in both our local high schools. Officers regularily attend law classes, career days, as well as speaking to students prior to graduation. Officers also make themselves available to assist students with school assignments in relation to the laws, drinking and driving and police work.
The Leamington Police Services participate in the high school co-op student program where each semester a student gains knowledge and understanding about policing as a possible career.
