Winter Control Services

The snow and ice removal objective is to reduce hazards of icy road conditions to motorists and also reduce economic losses to business and industries due to workers unable to get to their jobs.  As well, this procedure facilitates emergencies of the hospital, ambulance, fire and police departments and allows safe passage of school busses, public transit routes and pedestrian traffic.

All streets in the Municipality of Leamington play a particular role in the transportation network with each street receiving a priority ranking of 1 or 2.

Priority #1 streets are major collector routes servicing hospitals, ambulance, fire and senior citizen homes routes, i.e. Talbot Street.

Priority #2 streets are local residential streets i.e. Whitwam.

For information purposes the Police play a key factor in the overall commencement of this objective; acting as an early alert for road conditions after regular hours; paging the supervisor when conditions become hazardous, etc.  As a result of said alert the supervisor determines what staff, equipment and materials are required for the particular conditions, with an immediate response time.
