The Municipality’s Animal Control By-law ensures the safety and well-being of both the residents of Leamington and their pets.
The Municipality is also responsible for the investigation of complaints filed by residents relating to unregistered, lost, strayed or injured dogs.
The Animal Control Officer is appointed by Council and is responsible for seizing and impounding dogs. Essex County K9 Services is the animal control service provider for the Municipality. They can be contacted at 519-796-3013 to respond to the following situations:
- dogs running at large
- lost dogs
- dangerous dogs
- live trap raccoons, skunks, possums
- remove and dispose of dead animals found on municipal road
For dead animals found on Provincial or County Roads, please call the County of Essex, Engineering at 519-776-6441 ext 317.
Barking Dogs
Noise caused by barking dogs are prohibited under Leamington's noise by-law which is enforced by Leamington's OPP. If you cannot resolve this issue with your neighbour who may not be aware of the noise by-law, call Leamington's OPP station at 519-326-2544.
Dog Adoption
Dog adoptions from the Kingsville/Leamington pound are coordinated through St. Clair College of Applied Arts and Technology. The College is an accredited Veterinary Technician Program facility with a registered teaching veterinary hospital. Viewing of the dogs are by appointment at St. Clair College.
