Council Considers - June 28, 2022

Leamington Council will hold an electronic Council meeting on June 28, 2022 at 6:00 PM. Council will consider:

  • A Public Meeting under the Planning Act regarding Zoning By-law Amendment Application No. 252 to amend the site-specific Commercial Highway (C2-9) zoning of the property located at 279 Erie Street South to establish the use of the building as a hotel, to permit a banquet facility as an accessory use to the main hotel use and to include site-specific provisions for landscaped open space, maximum height, interior side yard setbacks and parking space requirements.
  • A report regarding the Enbridge Franchise Gas Agreement.
  • Appointing Heather Latam to the Office of member of Council. On June 9, 2022, Councillor Trevor Jones submitted a formal notice of resignation as he has been elected as a Member of Provincial Parliament in the recent provincial election.
  • Appointing Mayor MacDonald to the By-law Appeal Committee, Councillor Tiessen to the Essex Region Conservation Authority, Councillor Wilkinson to the Union Water Supply System Joint Board of Management, Councillor Dunn to the Court of Revision for Drainage Act Matters, Councillor Dunn to the Committee of Revision for Local Improvement Matters, Deputy Mayor Verbeke to the Kingsville Leamington Municipal Animal Control Advisory Committee and Councillor Hammond to the Leamington Uptown Business Improvement Area - effective June 29, 2022.
  • Receiving the By-law Service Delivery Review - Council Quarterly Report for information.
  • Appointing Mayor Hilda MacDonald as proxyholder for the Municipality of Leamington to cast its shareholder’s votes at Essex Power Corporation’s 2021 shareholders’ annual meeting and appointing Frank Ricci as an alternate proxyholder.
  • Directing Administration to request OPP Paid Duty Officers be contracted for every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays and approving these additional costs be funded through the 2021 COVID-19 Recovery Funding received from the Province of Ontario.

The summer patrol would be similar to the reduced hours contracted at the end of 2021 and include the following:

  • Fridays 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Saturdays 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Sundays 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Statutory Holidays 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM

The summer patrols will include Seacliff Beach, Seacliff Park, the Waterfront Promenade and Marina. The paid duty officers will be requested to have access to an ATV to efficiently patrol the area.

  • Approving the request for the waiving of the Amphitheatre fees for the Hogs for Hospice Event.
  • Approving the terms of the 2022-2024 Collective Agreement negotiated between The Corporation of the Municipality of Leamington and the Leamington Firefighter’s Association represented by the U.F.C.W.
