Council Matters – February 22, 2022

At the Leamington Council meeting held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, Council:

  • Received a petition from the Municipality of Leamington Road Authority along with roll number 220-06100, pursuant to the Drainage Act. Council directed that Administration notify the petitioners and landowners affected including County of Essex, Essex Region Conservation Authority, Ministry of Environment Climate and Parks, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, of the intention to proceed with the creation of a new drainage works.
  • Approved the right of access within various road allowances to Leamington Area Drip Irrigation Inc. (LADII) for the purposes of constructing water mains to facilitate additional greenhouse growth.
  • Implemented a Communication Protocol with regard to the Caldwell First Nation. Chief Duckworth has expressed that Caldwell First Nation would like to work with the Mayor and Council to establish infrastructure and services for the site.  Administration has also had discussions with representatives on behalf of Caldwell First Nation in this regard.
  • Approved the purchase of one 2022 Dodge RAM 3500 cab and chassis truck from Oxford Dodge Chrysler in the amount of $58,634 (plus HST) and that the estimated deficit of $35,000 be funded from Water reserve. 
  • Directed Administration to prepare correspondence that the Municipality wishes to enter into a contract for policing service and to bring forward a report regarding potential enhancements or other services which may be provided by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and which may be discussed with the OPP during the contract proposal process.
  • Received the 2021 annual report of activities of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee in accordance with A00-Council Committee Policy.
