Council Matters - January 14, 2020

At the Council meeting held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Council:

• Held a Court of Revision regarding the following matters: Jefferson Wiper Drain – Bridge Replacement for Parcels # 690-00900 & 640-01000 and the Gorrell Drain – New Drain Petition. The Schedule of Assessment outlined in the Engineer’s Report for both the Jefferson Wiper Drain – Bridge Replacement and the Gorrell Drain – New Drain Petition was confirmed.

• Held a Public Meeting under the Planning Act regarding Zoning By-law Amendment Application No. 205 – 419 and 429 Mersea Road 8 and approved the application to change the property from Agricultural Residential Zone to Agricultural General Zone. This applies to the residential parcels which have recently been consolidated with the abutting farm property to facilitate the permitted greenhouse development. 

• Approved the application to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) Green Stream, for the sewer separation of Audrey, Margaret, Jane, Clair and a portion of Sherk Streets. The outcomes of the sewer separation project support two important goals: to reduce the existing combined sewer area that contributes to operational challenges at the PCC during rain events, and to provide a sanitary sewer outlet capacity for future expansion of the urban area to the east.

• Approved a maximum of $175,000 for grants to be included in the 2020 draft budget and for Administration to review and provide recommendations to revise Policy F11- Requests for Council’s consideration. In accordance with Section 107 of the Municipal Act, as amended (Act), Leamington Municipal Council may provide grants to non-profit organizations and groups who operate within, and/or provide services to, the Municipality of Leamington for any purpose that Council considers in the interest of the Municipality. These services include but are not limited to the areas of arts and culture, recreation, environmental and other activities that support purposes beneficial to the community and are clearly non-core or non-scheduled services offered by the Municipality.
