Leamington Announces Strategic Priorities

Leamington Council approved the Municipality’s Council Priorities Review and Recommended Key Actions - Strategic Vision document at its January 28 meeting.
This key document will guide Council’s decision making over the next three years. The Corporation’s strategies form the framework for municipal policies and direction, work plans and the allocation of resources, both human and financial.
The strategic planning session was held in 2019 and facilitated by Strategy Corp Inc. Council and administration met over two days to discuss Leamington’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and to address what they perceive as the issues and future direction the Corporation should take to move Leamington forward progressively and pro-actively.
The document defines the following core values, which will guide the operations and decision making of the Municipality:
- Leamington is open for business and investment. Planning in an integrated and holistic manner to consider economic, social, cultural and environmental sustainability.
- Leamington is a compassionate, inclusive and welcoming community.
- Leamington is focused on customer service, fiscal prudence and continuous improvements.
The document also outlines key themes and strategic actions, which will help set priorities for this term of Council.
“This plan demonstrates that we remain focused on building the infrastructure we need, delivering the services our residents expect, and promoting growth in our local economy,” said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. “Every day, we work with upper levels of governments, our municipal neighbours, the County of Essex and a network of community partners and agencies to get the best for Leamington. With this plan, we believe we will stay on the right track.”
As for the next steps, Chief Administrative Officer Peter Neufeld noted, “Council and administration will now begin the task of incorporating strategies, objectives and action plans into the Corporation’s municipal work plans. We will annually review our steps forward to ensure we are addressing our objectives, and report our progress. I am very proud of the work council and administration have undertaken to develop this fundamental resource for our future.”
