Mayor MacDonald Kicks Off Reinvent This Space Competition

The Municipality of Leamington successfully launched the Reinvent This Space competition today, challenging aspiring entrepreneurs to submit their ideas for starting a business in Uptown Leamington with the chance to win free rent for a year.
Potential entrepreneurs are invited to submit a brief video pitch outlining their idea. Along with Mayor Hilda MacDonald, a panel of local business leaders will review proposals and select a shortlist of finalists. The finalists will receive in-depth mentoring and support by local business leaders to help develop their business plans. Finalists will then make a final pitch to the panel, before the panel awards an up to $15,000 grant to the winner. The Reinvent This Space grant will be used to support the new entrepreneur by providing rent for 12 months to a vacant space in Uptown Leamington.
“Reinvent This Space is all about taking ideas and dreams and transitioning to a real business” said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. “Small businesses and entrepreneurs are vital to our community, and we look forward to seeing some really creative ideas about how to reinvent our vacant storefronts which in turn will help revitalize Leamington’s Uptown.”
Applications are now open and will be accepted until August 30, 2019. Finalists will be announced by September 15, 2019, with the winner of Reinvent This Space announced in November.
