Monitoring of Gas from Abandoned Well

Leamington, ON October 18, 2016 - There is a mixture of gases from an abandoned well escaping outside of a private residence located in the 200 block of Robson Road.

The Municipality is working with emergency crews and has contacted responsible Ministries and other agencies in order to obtain assistance.  Two residences have been evacuated as a precaution. 

You will see monitoring equipment being utilized in the area and the roads will be closed (except for local traffic) for this purpose.  Please note that any outdoor burning will be banned in the immediate area until further notice.

A localized emergency has been declared and funding has been requested from the Province to assist with the efforts to resolve this issue.
