Bayview Park Development Project to Begin in Early July
The Municipality of Leamington is moving forward with the development of Bayview Park, with construction expected to begin in early July 2026.
Located south of Bayview Cemetery along Bevel Line, the approximately 12-acre site currently includes a leash-free dog park and vacant land. The project will transform the area into a regional park designed to serve nearby neighbourhoods, support future residential growth, and provide enhanced recreational opportunities for residents across the community.
A key feature of the project is the planting of approximately 240 Carolinian trees, helping to expand Leamington's urban tree canopy while creating a greener, more inviting space for residents to enjoy for generations to come. Combined with new recreational amenities, walking paths, and gathering spaces, the redevelopment will establish Bayview Park as an important community destination for years to come.
The project includes:
- Enhancements to the existing leash-free dog park, including a separate area forsmall dogs and new water stations
- Approximately 240 Carolinian trees planted throughout the park
- Accessible asphalt walking paths with decorative lighting
- A new washroom and maintenance storage building
- A 20' x 30' covered pavilion
- A new playground with swings and accessible rubber safety surfacing
- Two new parking lots with street lighting
- Benches, picnic tables, bike racks, and waste receptacles
"I've heard from many residents who enjoy using the dog park, and I'm excited to see Bayview Park grow into a regional park that offers something for everyone," said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. "Whether you're walking your dog, watching your children play, or simply spending time outside, this will be a place where people can come together and enjoy everything our parks have to offer."
Construction Impacts
Residents can expect increased construction activity in and around Bayview Park, including construction vehicles, equipment, noise, and dust during typical work hours of Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional Saturday work or extended weekday hours may be required.
The main park development area will be closed to the public throughout construction. The existing leash-free dog park will remain open; however, periodic closures or temporary restrictions may be necessary as work progresses in certain areas of the park.
The Municipality appreciates the public's patience and cooperation during construction.
