Mayor Hilda MacDonald's Message

As we near the end of this Council term, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we have accomplished together as a community. Over the past four years, Council has worked hard to make investments that support Leamington’s growth, strengthen our services, and help maintain the quality of life that makes our municipality such a special place to call home.

One of the most important projects underway is the Northeast Trunk Sanitary Sewer. This major investment will make it possible for approximately 6,500 new homes to be built in the future and will open up new industrial and employment lands, helping attract businesses, create local jobs, and support opportunities so people can choose to live and stay in Leamington. It’s the kind of long-term infrastructure that will support our community for generations to come.

We have also continued to move forward with improvements along our waterfront. Through the Waterfront Destination Master Plan and upgrades to parks and public spaces along Lake Erie, we are building welcoming places for residents and visitors to gather, enjoy the shoreline, and take pride in our community.

Supporting people in our community who are facing challenges has also remained important to Council. While homelessness services are primarily the responsibility of the County of Essex and the Province of Ontario, the Municipality has continued to work alongside local partners to support community-based solutions. The addition of an overnight program at the Homeless Hub is one example of how partners are working together to make sure support is available when it is needed most.

None of this work happens without the support of Council, municipal staff, community organizations, and residents. I am especially grateful to my fellow members of Council for their commitment to working together and making thoughtful decisions, often difficult ones, with the best interests of the municipality as a whole at heart. I also want to thank our residents for the pride and support they continue to show for Leamington.

It has been an honour to serve this community, and I am confident that the work we have done together will continue to benefit Leamington for many years to come.
