Accessibility FAQs

For more detailed information about the Municipality of Leamington's strategy to ensure the municipal election is accessible to all, please review the 2026 Accessibility Plan

For more information on accommodations for disabilities, please call us at 519-326-5761 or email us at clerks@leamington.ca

All voting day and advanced voting locations must be wheelchair accessible. Every effort is made to ensure voting locations are wheelchair accessible. If you have particular needs, contact the Clerk’s Office in advance to review the site accommodations.

You may ask the deputy returning officer at the poll for assistance or you may bring a friend to the voting location to help with the voting process. Your friend may help you mark your ballots. A person may only act once as a friend for an elector.

Election officials will attend on homes for the aged, nursing homes, institutions with 20 or more beds, and retirement homes with 50 or more beds to make sure residents of these places have the opportunity to vote.

On the scheduled dates, if you reside in one of these facilities, you will be able to vote at the polling place that the Municipality of Leamington provides in the facility.

When required, election officials will go to the bedsides of electors in these facilities so they can vote.

You must be on the Voters List in order to vote. If you are not on the List, you can get added if you can show proof of identity and proof of residence to election officials.

If you are on the Voters List, you will be asked to show proof of identity when you go to vote – if you don’t have proof of identity, you can make a statutory declaration to receive your ballots.

A list of acceptable documents to show proof of identity and proof of residence is available at the link below. The list includes a “Declaration of Identity”.

Accessible Voting System

Voter Assist Terminals (VAT) will be available at designated locations on advanced polling dates as well as voting day. VAT gives voters with special needs the ability to mark their ballots independently and privately.

The VAT is equipped with Autocast, which allows voters to cast ballots without assistance directly into a secure ballot box after verification, as well as an audio tactile interface for hearing impaired voters.

Foot paddles and Sip-and-Puff assistive technology are also available for voters unable to use the touch screen or touch pad and allow them to vote autonomously.

Home Voting

Home Voting Service will be offered for electors who are home-bound, due to illness, injury or disability. Home-bound electors can participate in the municipal election by voting independently in their homes. Election officials will visit the elector’s home with the necessary materials

Electors interested in this option will need to request an appointment by contacting the Clerk’s Office.

Curbside Voting

If you are physically unable to go inside the voting place, you can request to have your ballot brought to your vehicle, outside of the building or to another area within the voting place.

A friend or support person will need to go inside the voting place to let the election officials know that you require curbside voting.

Voting Day is October 26th, 2026. Information regarding voting location and Advanced Voting days will be shared when available.

Proxy Voting

You can also vote by proxy. This means you appoint a qualified elector from your electoral district to vote on your behalf if you are physically unable to go to a voting location.

The appointment must be made on the prescribed form available at the municipal office. The person being appointed as a proxy will be required to take a statutory declaration before a Commissioner of Oaths.

One completed, the voting proxy may be exercised at any advanced voting day or on election day. On election day, the proxy must be exercised at a voting location on behalf of the person who is unable to attend. The appointment of a proxy may only be made after 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, August 24th, 2026, and is null and void after election day.
