To vote in Leamington's Municipal Election, you must be a qualified elector. That means you must be:

• a resident of the Municipality of Leamington or a non-resident owner or tenant of lands in Leamington or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant; 
• a Canadian citizen;
• at least 18 years of age; and
• not prohibited from voting by law

The following individuals are prohibited from voting:

• any person who is not qualified;
• a person who is serving a sentence or imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
• a corporation;
• a person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity;
• a person who has been convicted of corrupt practices under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted; or
• anyone who is prohibited by law from voting

The Ontario Register of Future Voters is designed for eligible 16 and 17-year-olds so that they will automatically be added to the Register when they turn 18. Visit RegisterToVoteON.ca  to learn about eligibility, ID requirements and how to register as a future voter.

For local municipal elections, students are entitled to vote in multiple municipalities if their permanent home and temporary student home are in different municipalities or Territory Without Municipal Organization areas. Students can update or add their “home address” to the Register as their permanent family home and list their temporary student home as an additional property they, or their spouse, own or rent.

As of January 1, 2024, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is no longer responsible for collecting voter information for local elections. However, MPAC is legislatively required to collect school support information. You can update your school support designation  through MPAC’s Online School Support Tool .

As a property owner in Ontario, you are required to support a school system, even if you do not have children or your children are not currently attending school. This information can be found on your Property Assessment Notice.
