 About Michelle Wright

Returning to Leamington is country music’s Michelle Wright who graced Leamington’s SUNSET® Amphitheatre stage in 2021. Like so many country artists, five-time Canadian Country Music Association “Female Vocalist of the Year” winner Michelle Wright, originally from Merlin, Ontario, cut her teeth playing six nights a week in clubs throughout Canada. The success of her first CD, Do Right By Me, landed her a deal with the brand new Arista/Nashville label. Arista/Nashville made Michelle one of its flagship artists, and in 1990, they released her first U.S. album, Michelle Wright. The first single, "New Kind Of Love," became her first top thirty American hit.

In 1992, Arista released her second CD, Now & Then, producing six singles, including the song that changed everything, “Take It Like A Man.” The song catapulted Michelle to superstardom, receiving twelve music industry awards, including the 1993 Canadian Country Music Association's Fans' Choice Entertainer of The Year Award and double platinum honours for Now & Then the same year.

To date, Michelle Wright has garnered forty major awards in the US and Canada, including her 2011 induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and performed to audiences across the globe. Her total of thirteen album releases have produced twenty‐five Top Ten radio hits.

In 2022, on the 30th anniversary of the release of Now & Then, BFD/Audium Nashville released Wright’s tenth studio project, Milestone. Working with producer Bob Funk (the husband of one of the newest inductees into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, Patricia Conroy), she recorded nine new songs, including the first single, “Small Town.” The second single, “Heartbreak Song,” lays bare the misery of surviving the end of a relationship. The song was co-written with Texas Hills’ Adam Wakefield, who also appears in the song’s music video.

One of Milestone’s highlights is Wright’s new recording of the classic “Take It Like A Man.” Calls went out to the studio players from the original session. Drummer Lonnie Wilson, guitar players Brent Mason and Biff Watson, and Bruce Bouton (who created the signature guitar lick on his Weissenborn) returned to the studio for the new recording.
