Open Air Burning
Open Air Burning during Special Events
If your event will have open air burning, you must remain in compliance with the Municipality of Leamington's Open Air Burning By-law 34-10. Event Organizers must contact Fire Services between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday to Friday, to inquire whether they may obtain a permit for the type of fire they wish to have at the event.
Applications for open air burning are not available online because the Fire Prevention Officer must do a site visit.

Candle Burning at Special Events
The burning of candles is prohibited during any special event as noted by the Ontario Fire Code, Division B Subsection 2.4.4. Open Flames Article 2.4.4.1. Places of religious worship are exempt but notification to the Fire Chief prior to the event is mandatory. Please contact Fire Services for further information.
Smoking at Special Events
The Province of Ontario has made it illegal to smoke in public outdoor spaces with the Smoke Free Ontario Act. This applies to all public events being staged on Municipality of Leamington owned or leased properties, and includes all elements of an event such as beer tents, midways, concessions, etc.
In addition, the Municipality of Leamington has enacted By-law 311-13 being a by-law to prohibit smoking tobacco at municipally owned recreational facilities.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit enforces the smoking ban. Failure to comply or to ensure compliance with the Smoke Free Ontario Act or By-law 311-13 can result in fines of up to $5,000 under the Provincial Offences Act.
