Fire Prevention Week - October 3 - 9, 2021

Fire Prevention Week is October 3 to 9, 2021. This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!” works to educate everyone about the different sounds smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make, and what those sounds mean. Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe. When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action.

TIPS ON THE SOUNDS OF FIRE SAFETY

  • Hear a BEEP?
There’s an emergency! Get everyone out of the home immediately. Call 9-1-1 from outside.
  • Hear a CHIRP?
A single chirp every 30 or 60 seconds means the batteries, or the alarms themselves, need to be replaced immediately.
  • Get LOUD!
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms today and every month.
  • Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms!
Install working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every storey of your home and outside sleeping areas. Test them every month!
  • Nothing lasts forever - including smoke alarms!
Smoke alarms don't last forever. Replace them after 10 years.
  • Fire doesn't take a vacation
Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in cottages, cabins and trailers.
